Matobo National Park is a stunning and historically significant area located just south of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city and it’s known for its dramatic landscape of granite kopjes (rock formations) and wooded valleys, which formed over 2 billion years ago.
These unique rock formations, including “whaleback dwalas” and “balancing boulders”, create a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere.
While not as densely populated with wildlife as some other parks, Matobo is home to healthy populations of white and black rhinoceros, as well as other species like leopard, giraffe, zebra, and antelope.
Other popular activities in Matobo include guided rhino tracking, hiking along scenic trails, rock climbing, and birdwatching to spot species like the black eagle.
Overall, Matobo National Park offers visitors a unique blend of dramatic natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and opportunities for wildlife encounters and outdoor adventures.
