Overview

Queen Elizabeth is Uganda’s most visited national park for a reason.

The Park is home to 618 bird species which is the 6th highest diversity in the whole world and the highest in Africa, making it the perfect birder’s paradise. Queen Elizabeth is also the home of the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.

When Her Majesty the Queen of England Queen Elizabeth visited the then Kazinga National Park in 1954, it was renamed after her.

Covering 1978km², the park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes, and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and another 94 mammal species.

Set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, the park’s magnificent vistas include dozens of enormous craters carved dramatically into rolling green hills, panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel with its banks lined with hippos, buffalo, and elephants, and the endless Ishasha plains, whose fig trees hide lions ready to pounce on herds of unsuspecting prey.

As well as its outstanding wildlife attractions, Queen Elizabeth National Park has a fascinating cultural history. There are many opportunities for visitors to meet the local communities and enjoy storytelling, dance, music, and more. Our guides have all this information at the back of their hands and will ensure a great experience for our guests.

3 Day Itinerary

Your tour guide will meet you at your residence either in Entebbe or Kampala at 0630hrs.

After the briefing and individual introductions, get on board and start your journey driving westward. You will have a stop at the Equator Point for a chance to stand right in the ‘middle’ of the world. Don’t miss the magical demonstration that shows the variation in the direction of water flow at the Equator, a few degrees north and a few degrees south. Continue the drive, and break for lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre; you will also have the occasion to visit a museum that comprises of traditional items of the indigenous communities while at Igongo. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Wake-up to the sound of nature, get on board and embark on a sunrise game-drive. Look out for lions, leopards, elephants, warthogs, bushbucks, cape buffaloes and waterbucks among others. Big or small, you can always count on these guys to put on a show for you. We shall utilize a network of trails and coordinate with other guides to ensure that nothing goes unnoticed.

After lunch, transfer to the pier/dock to arrive on time for your afternoon boat-ride on Kazinga Channel. The boat cruise on Kazinga, thread of water that joins lakes George and Edward, is simply breathtaking. The channel is both home and playgrounds for the Nile Crocodiles, and it has arguably the highest concentration of Hippos on planet Earth. Throw the elephants and buffaloes into that mix and the stage is set for some wild action. You will also encounter the majestic African Fish Eagle, Goliath Herons, Saddle-billed Storks, Egyptian Gees, different species of Egrets, and Cormorants among other bird species. Don’t forget to get your camera out for the magnificent sunset from the Mweya Peninsula.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Watch the sunrise as rays beam over Queen Elizabeth N.P. plains, have an early breakfast and check-out. Join your driver/guide, transfer to Kyambura Gorge to embark on a chimpanzee tracking activity.

Kyambura connotes “I searched and failed to find”, indigenous people failed to find the source of water that flows in the gorge.

Chimpanzees, man’s closest cousin, live and wander in this underground forest. Just the scenery is a beauty to marvel at.

Chimpanzee tracking here involves descending and ascending on the banks of the gorge. Apart from chimpanzees, Kyambura Gorge is a hotspot for greater and lesser flamingos as well as the great Egret.

Return to the staging area where you will join your driver and exit the park through Kabatooro gate.

Another stop at the Equator by Kikorongo Road for a photo-opportunity doesn’t hurt, does it? Continue and break for lunch at Fort Portal (the only Ugandan city with an English name).  Take a leisurely but scenic ride over hills, down valleys, through tea plantations and trading centers back to Kampala.  Drop-off at your residence in Kampala.
