Wildwaters Lodge Jinja Up for Global Award

Wed, 30 Mar 2022 Lush Africa Safaris

One of Uganda’s coolest safari lodges, Lemala Wildwaters Lodge in Jinja is on the verge of winning an international hotels prestigious award.

Wildwaters is in the top four of the Luxury Travel Advisor’s competition for Most Instagrammable Hotel in the World.

For this competition, Luxury Travel Advisors is looking for the best photo to post on social media – more like the most photogenic hotel – the one that will rack up likes and comments.

Every year, the editors of Luxury Travel Advisor open nominations allowing hotels across the world to submit themselves for participation in the contest; they then narrow the field down to 64 hotels, put them into regional brackets and randomly pair them up for first-round matchups.

After several rounds, Wildwaters emerged as the winner in the Europe and Africa category pitting the River Nile-based lodge against Marina Bay Sands – representing Asia, Indian Ocean, and South Pacific – in the semis. Both hotels have swapped leads over the last 24 hours; Wildwaters took an early 72% lead before Marina hit back to take a 55% lead by the time of publishing this story.

Each person can vote just once per matchup per round. You can vote in as many or as few matchups as you’d like.

The Uganda-based lodge will need all the support there is to dislodge some of the world’s most iconic hotels left in the competition. But whatever the outcome, Wildwaters will hold their heads high and be proud of going this far in a competition that attracts some of the world-renowned resorts, from Greece to Italy, from South America to USA, Europe to Asia – all over the world.

On its way to the semis, Wildwaters took down Santorini Secret Suites & Spa of Greece with nearly two-thirds of the vote (66 percent). Before that, Wildwaters upset last year’s runner-up Laqua Charme & Boutique of Italy with over 79 percent of the vote in the opening round. They then eliminated the Shipwreck Lodge of Namibia by garnering 485 of 690 votes in the third round. They beat New York Budapest Hotel of Hungary in the second round with 62 percent of the vote.

It has all been big wins for Wildwaters to get to the semis – and deservedly so, because it is one beautiful resort.

Nestled among lush rainforest vegetation are ten spacious rooms, all of which make the most of the views.

The tented rooms are vast, with wooden floors, thatched roof, and a spacious balcony with a double roll top bath. Inside, you will find a king-sized four-poster bed with mosquito nets, comfy armchairs, and a queen-size daybed as well as an en suite bathroom with shower.

The main lodge and dining area are flanked by the spectacular Hypoxia River rapids to the right and the Kalagala Falls on the left. There is a lovely swimming pool which also makes the most of these dramatic river views. Other facilities include a day spa, a library with books, games and videos, laundry facilities, and in-room dining.

This is a wonderful place to relax for a couple of days, particularly after an exciting safari in Uganda. If you wish to be more active, there is plenty to keep you busy, including guided walks, quad bikes, guided fishing, white water rafting, jet boating, kayaking, horseback riding and bungee jumping.
