Overview

Connected to Tanzania’s Serengeti, the Maasai Mara National Reserve plays co-host to the great migration.

A visit here from August to November gives you a front-row seat to witness some two million wildebeest and thousands of zebras trying to cross the Mara River for greener pastures on the opposite side. Crocodiles, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas line up to try and snatch a wildebeest or two. The outcome is the stuff for television production, bringing Discovery Channel to life.

After here, this itinerary will take you to Lake Nakuru N/P. In its grassy floodplains, you will see flocks of flamingos, the larger and more peace-loving white rhinos, buffalos, abundant Rothschild’s giraffe, waterbuck, plus some lions and leopards.

4 Day Itinerary

Arrive in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Nairobi is a bustling modern metropolis with a range of world-class hotels, museums, restaurants, and even an urban national park. Your private guide will be waiting to transfer you to your boutique hotel for the evening.

Meals

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will start this day early with a healthy breakfast. You will leave your accommodation and head to Maasai Mara by 8 am before the Nairobi traffic jam starts to build up.

The main stopover of this 7-hour journey is the Great Rift Valley Viewpoint where you will take in 360views of this 6,000km-long gem. It blossoms with beautiful astonishing contrasts like scarps, ancient lakes, granitic hills, islets, and desert landscapes that are as flat as cake plates. Among its most beautiful volcanoes is Mountain Longonot.

The 15-million-year-old Great Rift Valley is a visual feast, so to speak, that will have a blissful effect on all your six senses.

Upon your arrival in Maasai Mara, you will proceed for a game drive in the open savannah that is dominated by red oat grass. Nothing beats the thrill of watching the sun rays kiss the far and wide stretching plains that are beautifully graced with rocky outcrops of dark quartz and riparian forests.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After breakfast, you will leave for a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch packed for you. Brace yourself for an exhilarating adventure that provides the perfect sceneries and landscapes. You will be led by a native driver-guide who is friendly and appreciates the land formations and all the physical features in the park. Not only is he/she knowledgeable about the wildlife here, but they also know the different areas where animals prefer to hang out during the different seasons of the year.

The Mara River is the main attraction for the animals. You’re likely to spot predators like spotted hyenas, lions, bat-eared foxes, black-backed jackals, and leopards. On the other hand, prey includes buffalo, Maasai giraffes, impala, eland, Thomson’s gazelles, and Toppi among others.

In the evening, you will return to the Mara Springs Safari camp for overnight lodging and meals. An optional campfire experience awaits you.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Wake up for breakfast and game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park, a destination named after a vast lake system that is notable for its blue-green algae. It is often referred to as the ‘pink lake’ due to its large congregation of flamingos. Situated on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, this wildlife estate offers easy wildlife viewing of most big animals apart from elephants. It is one of the few African parks that have both the black and white rhino species. They mostly dwell around the lake area, just like the other animals to which the park is home-like Rothschild giraffes, hippos, buffalos, and waterbuck. Your drive in the woodland will primarily target sightings of tree-climbing lions and shy leopards that love to blend in with their bushy surroundings. After lunch, depart to Nairobi where you will arrive between 4 and 5 pm, just in time for departure to your next destination/flight.

Thank you for visiting our beautiful country, Kenya.
